Friends, good morning. Last night, I pulled an undated bag of frost-coated currant scones from the freezer. Given their very past-prime appearance, my expectations were low, and I questioned whether I should bother reheating them, but I pushed on this morning, crossed my fingers, and threw them in the oven. Friends, they are so good! I love a scone, and I love this one so very much: punctuated with tiny currants, it's perfectly sweet and lightly lemony. What's more, it doesn't taste at all freezer-burnt, which makes me wonder if the often-recommended 3-month window for freezing is baloney? Anyway, if you are looking for something quick and easy to make for the mother figure in your life this weekend, I can't recommend them enough. I've included a few more ideas below. Wishing you all a wonderful weekend 💕💕
PS: Last Sunday, I launched a 7-day Sourdough Starter from Scratch Challenge. It was a lot of fun, and I loved hearing about everybody's experiences. Yesterday, I held Sourdough Starter Office Hours via Zoom, and I'm going to hold them again next Friday (details to follow). If you have any interest in building a starter from scratch, click here to join the challenge! It will require no more than 1-2 minutes of work a day for the next 7 days. Every morning for the next week, you will receive an email with a short video showing you what to do. Review of the Week"Absolutely amazing! & easy. Cut rhubarb from my garden in 1/2 inch pieces. Especially loved the lemony sweet/sour balance, texture (crumbly/custardy) & caramelized sugar crust." — Kathleen More Sweet Treats To Bake This WeekendDouble Chocolate Espresso Cookies (these are heaven)

Hi Friends, Often this time of year, my children spend a long weekend or more with my parents, who treat them to all sorts of goodies, including strawberries and cream while watching Wimbledon. (I know: what a life?) This year, as they find themselves at home with me instead, they've been requesting said berries and cream, and I've happily obliged because it's SO easy: pour a few tablespoons of heavy cream into a bowl, top with sliced strawberries (or other berries), sprinkle with sugar. It's...
Hi Friends, At the start of this week, when summer finally arrived in Upstate New York, I found myself at the grill making chicken souvlaki and had a revelation: while it's hot, why not put it to more use? So I threw some peppers on the grates alongside the chicken, figuring I could use them in this favorite (no-peel) salad dressing or to have on hand for sandwiches or salads: The peppers took much longer than the chicken... ... and because I may have forgotten about them, and because they...
Eat peanut noodles! And cold overnight oats! And watermelon gazpacho! (And make a sourdough starter from scratch... see below :)) Hi Friends, I would be lying if I said I had turned my oven off, stocked up on cucumbers and watermelons, and turned to all of my favorite no-cook recipes, because it has been very rainy and not summer-like at all here in Upstate New York. But apparently the heat is coming! And depending on where you are, you might already be experiencing it. If you are, I can't...
